Nvidia stock price plunges 9% due to AI selling, triggering panic on Wall Street

According to CoinMeta, the stock price of Nvidia plummeted by 9.26% on November 5, closing at $181.60, due to concerns about spending on artificial intelligence data centers, strict regulations, and China's restrictions on chips, which caused panic on Wall Street. This decline resulted in billions of dollars in market value evaporating for Nvidia, leading to one of the worst trading days on Wall Street in over a year. The sell-off affected the entire semiconductor industry; the stock price of AMD tumbled by 17.3%, the Nasdaq Composite Index fell by 5.5%, and the S&P 500 Index dropped by 4.4%. The Democratic Party's victory in the U.S. midterms sparked concerns about potential restrictions on the development of artificial intelligence data centers. Investors are worried that strict regulations could slow down the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure, thereby affecting demand for Nvidia graphics processing units. In addition, approximately 600,000 Nvidia H200 artificial intelligence chips were delayed in import approval by Chinese authorities in Hong Kong, although Washington has allowed exports to certain customers. Investors will be watching Nvidia's third-quarter financial report for the fiscal year 2027, which is scheduled to be released on November 17, with quarterly revenue expected to be around $108 billion.
