According to CoinMeta, some drivers of the London Underground plan to begin an eight-day strike later this month, which could lead to disruptions in travel for commuters in London. The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) stated on Friday that the strike is in opposition to the London Transport Authority's (TfL) plan to allow drivers to opt into a four-day working week on Thursdays. The union claims that this plan will pave the way for the reduction of hundreds of jobs. The secretary-general of RMT, Eddie Dempsey, said that the London Underground is attempting to portray this comprehensive attack on drivers' working conditions as a voluntary four-day working week. In reality, whether drivers work four or five days a week, they will have to give up their existing protections, and those who refuse to accept this will face the threat of being transferred to other shifts. The London Transport Authority previously stated that these adjustments will help to improve operational reliability. The operator has not yet responded immediately to requests for comment. Drivers belonging to the National Union of Railway Workers (ASLEF) have agreed to the relevant proposals, so they will not participate in this strike.
