According to CoinMeta, recently, based on predictions released by the headquarters of an election forecasting agency ( ddhq ), voters in California, USA, are expected to reject a proposal for a wealth tax on billionaires, which is unique to the United States. This means that one of the most costly and controversial political battles in the state's history is coming to an end. Proposal No. 40 was originally intended to impose a one-time 5% wealth tax on billionaires residing in California at the beginning of 2026, with most of the income tax revenue to be used to cover funding gaps in the healthcare system. According to voting data compiled by The Associated Press, after about 71% of the votes were counted, 46% of voters supported the proposal, while 54% opposed it. The rejection of this proposal will deal a significant blow to efforts across the United States to implement extreme wealth taxation.
