Vitalik Buterin: Slowing down the ultra-large-scale expansion of computing power generally brings more benefits than disadvantages
2026-11-08 18:38:58
According to CoinMeta, Vitalik Buterin stated on the X platform that they do not agree with the recent negative reactions to the anti-data center movement, believing that slowing down the ultra-large-scale expansion of computing power is generally more beneficial than detrimental. He pointed out that with advancements in algorithms, the capabilities that will require larger data centers in the next two years may be achievable through existing data centers within about four years or even less time. The anti-data center movement may not necessarily lead to catastrophic consequences. The world needs more time to address risks such as cyber security threats and biosecurity. Scientific research is constrained by factors other than AI. A one-year slowdown in the development of AI will cause less actual delay to scientific progress than one year, and this judgment does not rely on the AI doomsday theory.
