According to CoinMeta, as reported by the Financial Times, Anthropic invested $3.4 billion in purchasing gas-fired power generation equipment to supply electricity to its data centers. As AI laboratories increase their involvement in the energy industry and bypass intermediaries in the competition for scarce power equipment, Anthropic has completed a large-scale transaction for the purchase of gas generators. This cutting-edge AI laboratory acquired a commitment to purchase 1.7 gigawatts of heavy-duty generators from the equipment supplier OnePwr Solutions based in San Antonio, Texas, in late September. The transaction also includes the engineering and construction capabilities required for installing the generators. OnePwr did not transfer any employees to Anthropic. OnePwr had already placed an order for generators with Caterpillar two years ago but needed financing to complete the transaction. Anthropic initially planned to become a customer of OnePwr, but later decided to take over the equipment that OnePwr had ordered from Caterpillar.
