St. Louis, October 1st / PRNewswire / —__ Centene Corporation (New York Stock Exchange ticker: CNC)’s Medicare brand Wellcare today announced its products for the 2027 Medicare Advantage ( MA ) and prescription drug programs ( PDP ), in preparation for the Medicare annual coverage period ( AEP ) that begins on October 15th and ends on December 7th.
Wellcare indicates that its product portfolio for 2027 is aimed at helping members to face healthcare more confidently by combining affordable prescription drug coverage, personalized support, and benefits that take into account both medical and everyday needs. For members with more complex health needs, including those who meet the qualifications of both Medicare and Medicaid, Wellcare offers coordinated solutions designed to simplify the medical experience. Wellcare will also continue to provide affordable prescription drug coverage nationwide through its industry-leading independent Medicare Part D platform.
The president of the Michael Carson business group, Specialty, stated: "In 2027, Centene's Medicare products will combine profound Medicare and Medicaid professional expertise to create a more cohesive and seamless experience for members who rely on these programs. At the same time, we will continue to provide the nation's leading independent prescription drug plans. By integrating thoughtful benefit designs, coordinated care capabilities, and innovative initiatives that support overall health, we are helping members—who often have complex health needs—to access the care, prescription drugs, and support services they need in an affordable manner, thereby achieving better health outcomes."
As states continue to advance Medicare-Medicaid collaborative efforts, Wellcare's Medicare Dual products are designed to support a more integrated member experience while maintaining affordable coverage options. This focus is also reflected throughout the product portfolio: dual-eligible members account for about 40% of Wellcare Medicare Advantage members, and the dual-eligible special needs program (D-SNP) products comprise approximately half of the company's MA planned products for 2027.
The company continues to design benefits based on data, evaluating how supplementary benefits can better support the health needs and overall well-being of its members. In compliance with the standards set by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for special supplementary benefits for chronic diseases ( SSBCI ), members who participate in such benefit programs can use the Wellcare Spendables ® card to access approved healthy foods and other eligible health-related services to meet their personal health and social needs.
Research results published by the company earlier this year indicate that access to healthy food and other supportive resources plays a significant role in improving outcomes and reducing medical costs.
In addition, affordable coverage for prescription drugs remains at the core of the Wellcare Medicare strategy, especially for beneficiaries managing chronic diseases.
